AZTECANET ANNOUNCES THE PUBLICATION OF THE X IN LA RAZA & CODEX TAMUANCHAN: ON BECOMING HUMAN AztecaNet is proud to announce the electronic publication of "The X in La Raza and "Codex Tamuanchan: On Becomimg Human" by author and nationally syndicated columnist, Roberto Rodriguez. About "The X in La Raza" The X in La Raza is about identity. But it is not a discussion in the same vein as was customary in the 1960s and 1970s. One of the primary focuses of this work is examining how government, corporate America and the media have, in effect, conspired to impose identities. Yet, this is not strictly about names or identity. "It is about coming to the realization that who we are is essentially our spirits... and our spirits have no names," writes the author. The author continues: "Additionally, this was written with the hopes of taking us beyond the acrimonious debates which have turned all of us against each other, simply because we see or identify ourselves differently. This was first published as an "anti-book," because it was essentially a response to myself -- a discussion and dialogue with readers who had read a work I had written in 1982, "Who Declared War on the Word Chicano?" That discussion is included here. About Codex Tamuanchan: On Becoming Human Tamuanchan is not intentionally a followup to the X in La Raza, though one can interpret it as such. This book examines the issue of dehumanization, positing that virtually all human beings -- to one degree or another -- have been dehumanized by the violent and violating society we live in. This book posits that historically, peoples who have been violated or brutalized (in the United States) have not only had their identities thrashed, but even more so, their humanity taken from them. "The author writes: "But I further argue that the brutalizers are just as dehumanized because they have come to believe that their actions are normal. And many of them also pass on their beliefs to their children. In one sense, this is a personal journey to rehumanize myself, after almost being killed by ELA Sheriff's deputies in 1979. But beyond that journey, it is an effort to understand the dehumanized society we live in." Essentially, what is explored in this book is the meaning of what it actually means to be human. The journey here is going from the idea of what it means to be human to the actual path of becoming human. Beyond this, or rather as part of this, the issue of sovereignty is examined... not simply the political meaning and struggle relating to sovereignty, but what it means for human beings to be sovereign.
