: : Recently i have discovered my indigeneous roots. I am American, speak english. however, I am "indian". Just as most "mexicans" are. I feel that our indigeneous roots are very apparent. Yet, very much denied. Why is it that our mexica heritage be forgotten?

: The reason that indigenous heritage is forgotten by many is because, anymore, we're all programmed to think in a linear fashion rather than cyclical. Our ancestors thought in terms of cycles, death/rebirth, ending/beginning, etc. Anymore, we're taught to think that there's a beginning and an end, and that's it. But our ancestors knew as we must know that history repeats itself.

: We must not let our indigenous heritage, be we Nahua, Maya, or any other tribe, be forgotten! Learn the language, study the Tonalpohualli, read the poetry of great Tlahtoantin like Nezahualcoyotl. I have found through my roots that we must maintain that heritage, lest it be lost forever in this age of consumerism, apathy, and ignorance.

By the way, I, too, am American, adopted. My birth parents were from Mexico City, and I am part Nahua descent. It is this part of me that I embrace, because it lets me see the world through eyes that cannot be blinded by untruth.
